Srila Prabhupada

For the first time in history of America, Srila Prabhupada held public chanting of Hare Krishna Mahamanta in the Tompkins Square Park in New York and the vibrations were electrifying. Westerners spontaneously joined him to chant ‘Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare’ crowds followed him. As time went by, more people joined the group, some wore the robes that Prabhuda wore and yearned to eat the sumptuous Krishna prasadam lovingly served by Prabhuda. His followers helped him to establish ISKCON in 1966, just a year after his landing in the foreign country. It was the first time something like this had happened in New York City. In the coming eleven years, Srila Prabhupada circled the globe a dozen times spreading the message of Krishna and established 108 ISKCON temples in major cities around the world. Srila Prabhupada departed from this mortal world in 1977 and ISKCON takes forward his missionary activities around the world. Happy Gokulashtami to all.
