The last time he called me was for the launch of his film Chargesheet. He had been talking to the media all day and by late afternoon, he was exhausted. By the time I reached Sun-n-Sand Hotel he had just retired to his suite and was resting. I did not want to disturb him and was going back when his manager said that Dev Saab was calling me upstairs. I went up reluctantly and found him huddled on a sofa, wrapped in a shawl. He looked frail but his spirit was intact. He spoke to me about his film and the upcoming shooting schedule. A while later, when I got up to leave, he said, “Bhawna, I will meet you soon”, I nodded. Both of us were moist eyed. Both of us knew that the future was uncertain.
