Lankinin was the security guard of Ravana’s Lanka. Legend has it that Lankini was originally
the security guard of heaven but due to a mistake, Lord Brahma cursed her to become a
rakshasi and since then, she was demoted to become a guard at Lanka. But Lord Brahma had
blessed her with a boon. The day she was hit by a monkey and she spat blood, she would
revive to her original avatar. And this happens when Lord Hanuman crosses the ocean in
search of mother Sita.
Hanuman has to overcome several obstacles before he can make it to his goal and these
include rakshasis Simhika and Surasa mentioned in earlier episodes). Simhika was the
daughter of Prajapati Kashyapa and Ditti and the sister of asura Hiranyakashipu and
Hiranyaksha according to Vishnu Purana.
The puranas say that while Surasa represents the element akasha (sky), Simhika and Lankini
represent water and earth respectively.
