Tabu-Ajay unique pair – Day 2869

By Uncategorized

Successful pairs in early films are common stories of show business. Dilip Kumar- Vyajantimala, Shammi Kapoor- Asha Parekh, Rajesh Khanna- Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh- Rekha, Govinda- Neelam, Shah Rukh Khan- Kajol featured in a number of films together and with time, the pair lost its magic and faded away. One pair that continues to retain its magic and deliver substantial films decade after decade is Ajay Devgan and Tabu.

The pair first came together in Vijaypath and since then, they have continued to cross milestones of their careers together. The latest being Drishyam and Drishyam 2 and now another acclaimed director, Neeraj Pandey (A Wednesday, Special 26 and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story) is geared up to repeat their magic in his sixth directorial venture Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha! A musical romance drama, the film will span twenty years of their relationship and music composed by the celebrated MM Kreem.

The Crew is ready to roll – Day 2867

By Uncategorized

When something clicks everyone wants to repeat the idea and these days more and more production houses are collaborating to make movies. Producers Rhea Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor have joined hands for their new venture titled, The Crew. It features three generation of actresses, Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon and promises to be a comedy of errors set in the struggling airline industry. The only hero on board so far is global music sensation Diljit Dosanjh.
The Crew follows the lives of three airline women, who juggle their personal space and career to find a spot under the sun. Destiny leads them to some unexpected situations and the three get embroiled in a web of lies and coming out of the mess seems impossible.

Directed by Rajesh Krishnan and co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures Limited & Anil Kapoor Productions, The Crew is set to go on floors end of March 2023. Should we expect  another ‘chick flick ‘or  should we wait for some more time before making assumptions? I guess let’s wait till they start rolling.

History of YRFilms – Day 2866

By Uncategorized

The OTT platform has opened opportunities for actors and filmmakers and in my opinion there is not a single worthy artist who is any longer out of work. Different kinds of entertainment are being served on different channels and now that everyone is exhausted of watching sex/ scandal/ shame in their series, channels are re-thinking content.  Netflix, who has been a leader in this game has done a makeover and launched a Docu-Series that will feature 35 personalities from show business who will trace the history of Hindi cinema through the lens of Yash Raj Films – its impact and interpretation.

For the first time, the reclusive head of YR Films, Aditya Chopra, has agreed to come on camera and discuss the banner.
The first part of the docudrama titled The Romantics will stream on February 14, 2023 as a tribute to the legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, director of immortals like Silsila, Lamhe, Kabhi Kabhie, Veer-Zaara, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Chandni, Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The series willcelebrate 50 years and the legacy of Yash Chopra!

The last time Aditya Chopra gave a print interview was in 1995 after the success of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. The docu-series is directed by Smriti Mundhra, who returns to Netflix after the phenomenal success of Indian Matchmaking and the Never Have I Ever franchises.

Content Consumption – Day 2865

By Uncategorized

There was a time when none of us were data conscious but now suddenly, everyone and everything is about numbers. It is not just magazines and websites putting up top charts but every channel displays their independent surveys. So here are some interesting facts put up by Alexa and Fire TV: Indians placed six search queries every second through Alexa on Fire TV and gravitated towards adding more laughter to their lives by choosing Comedy over other genres. Horror and Cartoons were the other two most-searched subjects but on top of everyone’s favourite list remained Bollywood movies!

In 2022, Pushpa: The Rise was the most searched movie followed by Brahmāstra and The Kashmir Files. Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt continued to rule the hearts of millions of movie-buffs –taking the first three spots in the list of most searched actors.

On the small screen, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma followed by Anupamaa and Indian Idol and Motu PatluPeppa Pig, and Doraemon were the most searched kid’s content

Indian households spent four hours every day binge-watching and streaming entertainment content, a 10% increase in the numbers from the previous year.

Reinforcing single screen – Day 2864

By Uncategorized

Call it coincidence that when The Last Film Show mourning the demise of single screens is making waves at Oscars, G5A  South Mumbai’s prime art theatre launches its latest property, Cinema House. Designed to be a single screen theatre, showcasing movies one-weekend-a month, Cinema House aims to spotlight on independent, regional, and contemporary cinema. The idea is to celebrate the experience of collective film viewing and reinforce a culture of watching old and new ways of storytelling.

Beginning with January 2023 Cinema House held two screenings, Ajitpal Singh’s Fire in the Mountains andShaunak Sen’s All That Breathes nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards followed by a conversation with the film crew. G5A continues its activities at the Black Box that launched veteran director Saeed Mirza’s new book I Know the Psychology of Rats a stimulating event surrounded by like-minded people.

G5A is the brainchild of the multi-talented and ravishing Anuradha Parikh.

Movie Review – Almost Love with DJ Mohabbat – Day 2863

Unlike Anurag Kashyap

Film: Almost Love with DJ Mohabbat

Date: 03.02.2023

Writer/ Director: Anurag Kashyap

Cast: Alaya F, Vickey Kaushal, Karan Mehta

Music: Amit Trivedi

Synopsis: Love stories of two couples

Hindi Review: Namashkar, main hoon Bhawana Somaaya aur ye hain mera iss hafte ka film review, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat.

My first thought is that ye kaisa title hain? Pyaar hain toh ‘almost’ kyon hain? Aur DJ hain toh naam ‘mohabbat’ kyon hain?

But that’s writer-director Anurag Kashyap aur unse judi har baat ajeeb hota hain. Balke main kahungi ki unki filmon ke kuch preconditions hote hain:

Title utt-patang, content dark, characters complex aur kahani complicated.

Iss baar, strangely, content relatively bright hain. Characters uljhe hue hain magar samajh mein aate hain aur narrative itni complicated nahi hain.

Kahani ek hi set of actors ke saath parallel tracks par chalti hain.

Pehla track, Amruta-Yakub/ Alaya-Kiran Mehta, jo Dehradun mein padosi hain aur dost bhi.

Doosra track: Ayesha- Harmeet/ Phir se Alaya aur Karan, jo strangers hain aur London ke club mein milte hain.

Dono ki duvidha pyaar hain magar dono ke muddein alag hain. aur dono ke tracks parallel chalte hain.

Film ka first half behad confusing magar second half mein, jab guthiyaan dheere dheere khulne lagti hain, you start enjoying the complications.

Film ka plus: music, editing aur treatment. Film ka title, jo hume pehle ajeeb lagta hain, film ka sandesh hain. That attraction aur attachment ke beech jo faasla hota hain, ussi ko mohabbat kehte hain.

Film ka minus: Ek toh naye chehre aur wo bhi double role mein so it is complicated.  Uske baad charon ki back stories, kuch samajh mein aati hain, kuch nahi aati.

Climax is too simple and, in a way, insensitive as well.  Itna sab ho jaane ke baad, how can everything be so normal?

Vicky Kaushal urf DJ Mohabbat film ke main attraction hain magar puri film mein wo apni topi/ chashma/ daadhi ke peeche chuppe rehte hain. Kyon? maloom nahi!

Lead pair Alaya aur Kiran Mehta apni taraf se puri koshish karte hain.

Kya aap ko ye film dekhni chahiye? Agar aap die hard romantic ho toh ye pyaar ka ek naya expression hain aur agar aap Anurag Kashyap fan ho, then the film will be disappointing!

Main Bhawana Somaaya Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat ko Big Ratings deti hoon 2.5 stars.

Movie Review – Faraaz – Day 2862

By Uncategorized

Faraaz breaks stereotypes

Film: Faraaz

Date: 03.02.2023

Director: Hansal Mehta

Writers: Kashyap-Raghav-Ritesh

Cast: Zahan Kapoor, Juhi Babbar Soni, Aditya Rawal

Music: Sameer Rahat

Synopsis: Based on the real-life terrorist attack that ravaged a Dhaka Cafe Faraaz follows events that unfold over one claustrophobic night moulded into a heart-wrenching hostage drama. An untold heroic tale about a young boy who stood tall in the darkest times.

Hindi Review: Namashkar main hoon Bhawana Somaaya aur ye hain mera iss hafte ka film review, Faraaz.

Anubhav Sinha produced aur Hansal Mehta directed Faraaz Dhaka ke café mein hue terrorist attack ki kahani hain.

5 naujawan, hathyaar sammit, café mein entry lete hain aur point blank shoot out karte hain.

Kuch hi shhanon mein, ek haseen shaam ek bhayanak raat mein badal jaati hain!

Kahani 2 level par chalti hain- ek, jo café mein hota hain, yaane, terrorist’s ka hostages’ par atyachar!

Doosra, jo café ke bahar hota hain, yaane, police aur ministry ki operation ki taiyaariyaan aur hostages ke pariwaron ki pareshaniyaan.

Inme shamil hain Bangladesh ka leading business house, Latif u Rahman ka pariwar, jinka nawasa Faraaz/ Zahan Kapoor bhi apne doston ke saath café mein hostage hain.

Film ke opening shots, closing shots, music aur treatment is what sets it apart from other terrorist films.

Narrative kab/kyon/kahan aur kaise ki back stories mein na jaakar, saare prejudices/ perceptions/ discriminations/defences ko naturally accept karte hain aur terrorism se jude, saare stereotypes todte hain!

Pancho terrorist normal youngsters hain. They like food, music, video games and posing for selfies.

Wo aaj ki zabaan bolte hain – that is a combination of Hindi/ Urdu/ English, ladte, jhagadte, argue, abuse karte hain.

They are strong/weak/ confused/ frightened aur yehi film ka sandesh hain.

Film ke demerits: 1. Pace- jo deliberately slow hain taaki hum hostages ki ghuttan ko mehsoos kar sake.

2. Conflict areas bohat kum aur low-key hain jiski wajah se humara man thodasa bhatakta hain.

Hume wapas track par laate hain film ke sensitive performances: naye actors Harshal, Jatin, Ninad, Sachin aur sab se effective, unke leader, Aditya Rawal is superb!

Zahan Kapoor urf Chhottu/ Faraaz bohat hi quiet character ko precision se nibhate hain.

Juhi Babbar Soni film ki surprise packet hain, both refreshing and powerful!

Main Bhawana Somaaya Faraaz ko Big Ratings deti hoon 3 stars.
