Lord Hauman is an important character in Ramayana and Anjana, Hanuman’ mother, an important part of Hanuman’s life.  Though there is no direct access to Devi Anjana in the epic, her reference is there all the time. According to a version of the legend, Añjanā was an apsara named Puñjikastalā, who was born on earth as a vanara princess who married Kesari, a vanara chief.

In some Shaivatraditions, Vayu, the god of the wind, carried the divine power of Shiva to Anjana’s womb, and that is why Lord Hanuman is considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva.
