This is a story as old as the hills, of Srila Prabhupada born in 1896, Calcutta in a devout Vaishnava family. He was instructed by his guru maharaj to preach the message of Bhagavad-gita in English throughout the world and the process began almost organically. In 1965, at the age of 69, Srila Prabhupada was given a free ticket to travel to U.S.A in Scindia Steam Navigation Company’s cargo ship Jaladuta. Srila Prabhupada grabbed the opportunity and carried with him Rs 40 and some trunks of books published by him. When the ship was sailing over the Red Sea, Srila Prabhupada suffered two heart attacks and Prabhuda noted in his diary that had he suffered a third attack on the voyage, he would not have survived. It was during this time; Lord Krishna appeared in his dream and assured him protection. Srila Prabhupada reached America without any contacts or plans. For few months he stayed with distant acquaintances and one of them helped him to find a roof in Lower East Side of New York. Prabhuda was comfortable, well almost and soon he got an opportunity he had never dreamed of. Happy Janmashtami to all.
