Nadira Babbar
Writer director Makrand Deshpande will feature his favorite actress Nadira Babbar in Ekjute’s new play Maa Ke Haath for Prithvi Theatre Festival 2016!
The new play is inspired from Nadira Babbar’s mother Razia Sajjad Zaheer’s life and is an unusual true story of an extra-ordinary woman. She was a political worker, a social activist and the wife of a great comrade Sajjad Zaheer an eminent Urdu writer/ professor in Lucknow University.
The uniqueness of the play is that it’s a solo act by Nadira Babbar who will be playing her mother as well as herself in the play. Makrand is super excited about the play and says he always wanted to work with Baaji but delayed it because he is in awe of her but one phone call from her and I knew I could not let go of the opportunity. Nadira Babbar is as flattered to be directed by Makrand. She says she wanted to do this play for a long time and when she had finished writing the script the question was who will direct the complex play and Makrand was the first flashed my mind. It is my privilege to be directed by him. He could have refused because he has his own group but he agreed and I’m grateful.
