The first time I met Dev Anand was at his Navketan office, Khira Nagar, Santacruz. This was sometime in the late 70s. I was guided to take a red staircase from outside the building that landed directly in his office. His secretary was expecting me, and said Dev Ananad would meet me as soon as possible. He did. I was ushered inside his large cabin and found the actor drowned in a mound of files and papers. He got up as soon as I entered the room, proffered me a firm handshake and said, “Excuse the mess on my desk. Out of chaos blossoms creativity and to waste time on the mundane is wasting creative energy”.
It was my first interview with a superstar and I was nervous but Dev Anand has a way of putting newcomers at ease. He locked his eyes with mine and answered all my questions earnestly.
