50 Shades of Mumbai – 5 – Day 973

His paintings draw out the best of the perspectives as the colours shine bright against the evening light- The luminosity combined with the transparency of the weather – culls a beautiful cityscape that one can lose oneself into…indefinitely!

Mahesh studied the technicalities of fine art as a sheer passion to fuel his natural bent for capturing his imagery on canvas. Adept at all mediums, he enjoys playing with chiaroscuro as much as he dabbles with everyday subjects, symbolically trying to portray a simple truth- there is joy in every little thing!

The rush that characterizes Mahesh’s canvases can be alluded to the adrenaline rush that the artists tends to work with,  driven by the hidden joys in everyday chaos, crammed by lanes with Mumbai’s crowds and the perennial metropolitan pace of living.

With buildings flirting with bylanes and pedestrian traffic, painting vivid scenes of ordinary folks and everyday humdrum of city living, the artist unveils his collection aptly and simply christened ‘Pratibimbh’.

The Mumbai monsoon holds a special place as the artist creates washes and adeptly applies the oil medium with the expertise of watercolor techniques. The romanticism and inspiration that accompanies the rain is well depicted.

Pratibimbh- Capturing the soul of Mumbai

“The ways and subways of life,” says Mahesh have not only led him to be a passionate artist but have literally constituted the ethos of his musings on canvas. The strength of his brush dipped in oil paint confidently etches out silhouettes of vehicular traffic, bridges, carts, flower sellers, the iconic Dabbawalas of Mumbai, capturing the ethos of the buzzing metropolis.

50 Shades of Mumbai -1 – Day 969

By Food for thought

Mahesh Karambele, who studied art sheer out of passion is trying to evolve his own style of water color and oil paintings. There is something about the monsoons and rains that feed the imagination, most artists have drawn creative sustenance from rains at some point or other of their career. Monsoon, the most romantic and creative season is a source of inspiration for Mahesh as well. So it is natural for him to get inspired by the small lanes in Kalba Devi crammed handcraft pullers, buses, cabs and pedestrians all in a hurry. For Mumbaikars monsoon that comes after the scorching summer heat is a relief and Mahesh expresses it through his mesmerizing paintings.

Force 2 is better than Force – Day 968

By Films

Film Review: Force 2

Date: November 18 2016

Director: Abhinay Deo

Cast: John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha, Tahir Raj Bhasin

Rating: 3 stars

The film opens to news of assassinations. Three RAW agents have been shot down in China. The head office of the intelligence agency/ Raj Babbar suspects national threat. One of the deceased/ Harish is hero police inspector Yashwardhan/ John Abraham’s friend. Harish before being shot down couriers a clue to his friend.

Yashwardhan suspects there’s a mole in the system that is leaking secrets and requests the agency to let him carry out the mission. It is against the rule so he is paired with a RAW agent, KK/ Kanwaljeet Kaur/ Sonakshi Sinha.

The mole/ Tahir Raj Bhasin turn out to be a brat and lead the duo on a wild goose chase all over Buddapest. There is frenzied car and bus chase, crazy street fights as heroes jump over roofs, rope walk and breaking into homes and accounts. Not to miss the regular dose of bullets firing on wind shields and home windows.  Vehicles are stylishly blown into fire balls cut to Caucasian girls sizzling to remix of Bollywood numbers.

The first half is packed with thrills and gripping quite like a bond film presenting exotic locations, dare devil action and intrigue. There is a stunning sequence where strangers cross paths and exchange codes wordlessly. The pace is the magical and the credit goes entirely to the director, Abhinay Deo.

The second half becomes predictable packaging back stories to the characters. The script is unfair to Sonakshi Sinha who was marvelous in a similar genre/Akira. The intention was to break a stereotype which is why she is addressed as KK but is lost in translating into the character.

Upcoming actor Tahir Raj Bhasin is impressive but repetitive of his role in Mardani. Genelia Dsouza makes a brief appearance but leaves a mark.

Force 2 is better than Force and for those who enjoy spy thrillers. It is worth it for John Abraham’s master action and director Abhinay Deo’s craftsmanship

We have heard of personal invites for special birthdays of children and spouses, we have heard of careers being celebrated with fanfare but Nishi and Dinesh Khanna of originally The Holiday In and currently The Club are special in the sense they are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the hugely popular Spa patronized by all the film folks at The Club.

Going by the card it promises to be a holistic experience.

On Monday Twinkle Khanna released her second book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad already a best seller on Amazon. Her first book Mrs Funny Bones a compilation of her columns for a newspaper is a best seller too and Khanna, a serious author to watch out. The glamorous launch at Mumbai’s JW Marriot Hotel was attended by prominent film personalities and the book passages ably read by Shabana Azmi, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Karan Johar conducted a brief conversation with the actor on her experience of writing.

Twinkle dazzled on the stage recounting amusing anecdotes about her grandmother Betty Kapadia, paid fitting tribute to her mother, husband and son Aarav and was showered with praises by her erstwhile publisher Chiki Sarcar who described Khanna as a delightful and effortless writer.

As I watched a teary eyed Dimple Kapadia and a visibly emotional Akshay Kumar in the audience, my mind traveled back to the first time I set my eyes on her many, many moons ago…
